Md. Officials Teach Students About Domestic Violence
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A prosecutor is warning Baltimore-area high school athletes that they should intervene if they suspect a friend may be affected by domestic violence.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger spoke to students and coaches at a conference on Thursday, saying that it appears friends knew about fights that University of Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love had with her former boyfriend but did not tell parents, police or coaches about the problems.
Last week, a grand jury in Virginia indicted former University of Virginia lacrosse player George Huguely of Chevy Chase on murder and other charges in the May 2010 death of Love, who was from Cockeysville.
Shellenberger says excessive texting, explosive anger, jealousy and mood swings are warning signs of domestic violence.
