Md. Officials: No Deficiencies In Abortion Death
GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland health officials investigating the death of a woman being treated at a Germantown abortion clinic found "no deficiencies" in her care.
The 29-year-old woman died after an abortion performed by Dr. LeRoy Carhart. He is one of a handful of doctors who acknowledge performing late-term abortions.
The Washington Post reports a broader survey released Friday by the Maryland Health Department looking at all 16 abortion facilities found the Germantown clinic was among 12 that had some deficiencies. The department found no problems presented an immediate or serious risk to patients.
State officials did find life-threatening deficiencies at another abortion provider, Associates in OB/GYN Care LLC. It operates abortion clinics in Silver Spring, Cheverly, Frederick and Baltimore. Its license was suspended in March and reinstated after problems were corrected.
