Md. Murder-Suicide Victims Died Of Gunshot Wounds
POTOMAC, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County police say the victims of a murder-suicide that followed an accusation of workplace theft died of gunshot wounds.
Police said Friday that 57-year-old Carolyn Mattingly was a homicide victim, and that 42-year-old Andrew Racca died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Racca's body was found in a car that had crashed into a tree near Mattingly's Potomac home on Tuesday afternoon. Police said Friday that it's unclear whether Racca shot himself before or after the car crashed.
Racca worked at the Bethesda-based Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. His managers had informed him on Monday that they suspected him of stealing computer equipment and planned to call police. The next day, police say Racca went to the home of the foundation's chief operating officer and fatally shot Carolyn Mattingly, the executive's wife.
