Towson Man Shot By Burglar Inside Home; Suspect Arrested
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)-- A random break-in leads to gunfire in the heart of Towson. Police say a man walked in on a burglary. Then, he was shot.
Adam May has more.
News of what happened inside the home in the 500-block of Allegheny Avenue spread quickly among neighbors.
"It's like my worst nightmare, and we live right down the street," Caroline Warner, the victim's neighbor, said.
Police say at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the man who lives in the house returned home to find a burglar already inside. The surprised crook then shot the homeowner and took off running.
Police found the suspect a few blocks away dressed in camouflage from head to toe.
"It's pretty surprising to hear about something like that about 100 yards away from where we live," Brad Price said.
The crime has those who live in this family-friendly neighborhood on heightened alert.
Many here already try to deter burglars.
"I'm crazy about it. I'm always making sure the windows are locked, the doors are locked. I'll get up in the middle of the night just to make sure," Warner explained.
"It's shocking. I've lived here for a number of years. My father lived here for many years before," Del Dressel said. "And to my knowledge this is the first time I've heard of a violent situation like this."
The homeowner has been released from the hospital. The name of the suspect hasn't been released.
