Md. Man Sentenced In Bank Fraud Plot
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Clarksville man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for being the mastermind in a bank fraud scheme that cost more than 50 victims at least $70,000.
Forty-four-year-old Lemoyne Veney was also ordered to pay more than $87,000 in restitution at sentencing Tuesday in federal court in Baltimore.
According to his plea agreement, Veney conspired with a clerk at Baltimore City District Court to get identifying information by accessing a secure database at the Motor Vehicle Administration.
Prosecutors say Veney and others created false businesses and counterfeit checks, which were cashed or used to buy gift cards.
