Md. Man Pleads To Role In Killing Of Va. Handyman
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A Suitland., Md., man has pleaded guilty to his role in the shooting death of a Virginia handyman in 2010.
Tasheik Ashanti Champean, 46, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in Alexandria to conspiring with two others to try and rob a Centreville man at his home because they expected him to be carrying large sums of cash.
During the attempted robbery, they ended up confronting a handyman who worked there. Jose Cardona, a legal immigrant from Guatemala, died from a gunshot wound to the head.
One of the other men, Reynard Prather of Oxon Hill, Md., was arrested last year and has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Champean faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced March 1.
