Man Pleads Guilty In Pedestrian Death In D.C.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man who prosecutors say was high on PCP when he drove a van erratically on Benning Road, striking and killing a pedestrian, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Woodrow R. Johnson Jr., 52, of Capitol Heights, Md. entered the plea Friday in Superior Court. If the court accepts the plea deal, Johnson will be sentenced to seven years in prison on May 15.
Prosecutors say on Nov. 8, Johnson struck five vehicles while speeding along Benning Road. He also struck a pedestrian, Shamika Smith of Washington. Smith, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.
After he was arrested authorities say Johnson told police he had smoked PCP before driving.
