Md. Man Is 5th To Plead Guilty In Raccoon Case
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore man pleaded guilty for his role in hanging a dead raccoon on the porch of an African family's home.
U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein said James Nowicki pleaded guilty Monday to the racially-motivated act. Nowicki admitted that in 2010 he was involved in finding and then hanging the raccoon.
Prosecutors say Nowicki, who is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 4, faces 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for conspiring to deprive a person of civil rights and a year in prison and a $100,000 fine for violating the Fair Housing Act. Four others have previously pleaded guilty in the case.
Deputy Federal Defender Joseph Balter, who represented Nowicki, said he had no comment on the plea.
