Md. Man Gets 20 Years In Car Crash That Killed 3
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Maryland driver who fled the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Olney that killed three of his passengers was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
A judge sentenced 20-year-old Kevin Coffay to 40 years in prison Thursday but suspended half the sentence.
Coffay pleaded guilty in November to three counts of vehicular manslaughter and one count of fleeing the scene of a fatal crash.
Authorities said he was at the wheel at 3 a.m. on May 15 of last year when his car swerved off Olney-Laytonsville Road and crashed into a tree. All the victims of the crash were from Montgomery County: 18-year-old Spencer Datt of Derwood, 18-year-old Haeley McGuire of Rockville, and 20-year-old John Hoover of Rockville.
Another passenger survived the crash.
