Md. Man Charged In Bank Heists Pleads Guilty
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The last of four Maryland men charged in a string of bank robberies has pleaded guilty in federal court in Richmond.
The U.S. attorney's office says Derek Lamar Tompkins, 36, of Upper Marlboro pleaded guilty Wednesday to robbery conspiracy and firearms charges. David Darnell Lowery, 37, of Upper Marlboro pleaded guilty to the same charges Monday, and Tyre Antoine Johnson, 28, of Temple Hills pleaded guilty last week. All three will be sentenced early next year.
Another co-defendant, Mustafa Khalil Naeem, 56, of Upper Marlboro, pleaded guilty to three charges earlier this year and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors claimed the men took more than $1 million in about two dozen robberies from Maryland to South Carolina between 2004 and 2009.
