Md. Man Avoids Trial On Charge He Shot A Cat
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A Frederick man has avoided trial on charges he shot and wounded a neighbor's Siamese cat.
Larry Stotler, 59, agreed in court on Tuesday to pay more than $4,000 in veterinarian bills plus court costs to settle the dispute.
The judge ordered an indefinite stay of proceedings on the animal cruelty charge Stotler faced, provided that he obeys all laws.
Police say Stotler acknowledged shooting the cat in the left rear leg with a .22-caliber rifle Dec. 9.
He allegedly told investigators he thought the cat was a stray.
