Hagerstown Mall Closed As Unruly Crowd Waits For New Nikes
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Washington County Sheriff's office says a Hagerstown mall was closed temporarily after a crowd became unruly while waiting for a shoe store to open and begin selling Nike's new Foamposite sneakers.
Authorities say about 15 officers went to the Valley Mall after receiving a report of a disturbance among about 100 people waiting for the store to open Saturday morning. The sheriff's office says some shoppers told officers they had been waiting in line overnight and others began cutting in line.
Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore told The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the release of the new shoe drew shoppers from as far away as Washington. The sheriff's office says officers were told the store had 90 pairs in stock and they were sold out by 10 a.m.
