Md. Labor Secretary To Be Mayor's Chief Of Staff
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has tapped the secretary of Maryland's Department of Labor as her next chief of staff.
Alexander Sanchez, who has been secretary of the department since 2009, is joining the mayor's administration on May 16.
Sanchez will be Rawlings-Blake's third chief of staff in less than three years. He will succeed Peter O'Malley, Gov. Martin O'Malley's brother, who left the post in March to work for a law firm in Baltimore.
Rawlings-Blake said in a statement that Sanchez will bring "a wealth of great experience" to the job. She says his knowledge of workforce development issues will help bolster the city's economy.
The mayor is trying to increase the city's population by 10,000 families in the next decade.
