Md. Jury: Man Forced Woman Into Prostitution
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A jury has convicted a 32-year-old man of human trafficking and prostitution charges.
The Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office says Bennie Veasey was convicted Thursday. The office says evidence showed Veasey lured a 19-year-old victim into a prostitution ring and that she was coerced by Veasey to act as a prostitute and give him all the money she received from clients. Prosecutors say Veasey was using the money to pay off lawyer's fees stemming from a rape charge in Cleveland.
The woman was recovered during a sting operation conducted by Baltimore County Police in April.
Veasey's lawyer, Jerome Joyce, declined to comment on the case Friday.
