Md. Inmate Was Fatally Stabbed In The Neck
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say an inmate slain at the Maryland Correctional Institution near Hagerstown this week was stabbed in the neck.
Spokesman Greg Shipley told The Herald-Mail Friday that the state medical examiner's office determined the cause of Deavel Johnson's death.
Shipley says no one has been charged in the slaying on Tuesday of the 22-year-old inmate.
He says investigators have finished their initial interviews with inmates and correctional officers at the medium-security institution.
Police say a correctional officer noticed Johnson bleeding Tuesday night in a barrack-style housing unit with 32 beds and about 64 inmates.
He was serving four years for a 2011 burglary in Howard County.
