Md. Helps Truckers Ride Out Snowstorms Safely
HANOVER, Md. (AP) -- Truckers are getting a little more help finding a safe spot to ride out severe winter storms.
Maryland transportation officials announced a pilot program Thursday for emergency truck parking in select park and ride lots during storms with more than six inches of snow. The idea is to avoid parking on along highway ramps and shoulders.
With the addition of six new lots, there are now a total of 45 truck parking options during a storm across the state.
The Maryland Motor Truck Association and I-95 Corridor Coalition joined state officials in announcing a new application for mobile phones that identifies the trucker's location and helps them navigate to a nearby lot.
