Md. Gubernatorial Race A Lot Closer Than Expected
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—In less than 24 hours, Maryland voters will head to the polls to decide our next governor. The race is turning out a lot closer than many once thought.
Mike Hellgren has the last-minute campaign push.
In a state where Democrats dominate with a massive advantage in registered voters, the odds were always long for a Larry Hogan victory.
But this race is competitive. The non-partisan, independent Cook Political Report has even moved it into the toss-up category.
And the Hogan campaign is determined to keep momentum.
Over the weekend, star Republican Chris Christie made his fourth appearance in Maryland to energize Hogan's base.
"Here should be your motivation. It has been a lot time. It has been 12 years since Marylanders have tasted victory from the Republican Party. You can taste it. Are you ready to work for it?" Hogan said.
Democrat-- and current lieutenant governor--Anthony Brown is hoping to capitalize on his advantages and has pushed to get voters to the polls Tuesday. He has also brought in national figures--from President Barack Obama to the Clintons. And First Lady Michelle Obama will campaign for him Monday night in Baltimore.
"The advice is to get out and vote. There's a lot of momentum right now in this election season. I think more and more Marylanders realize there's a clear choice in this election," Brown said.
