Md. Group Celebrates 40 Years Of Restoring Wetlands
ST. MICHAELS, Md. (AP) -- St. Michaels-based Environmental Concern is celebrating 40 years of working to restore wetlands.
The nonprofit is encouraging the public to celebrate its anniversary by visiting its St. Michaels campus on World Wetlands Day next Thursday.
Environmental Concern says its native plant nursery was the first of its kind in the nation and now grows more than 120 species of native plants. Those plants have been used in projects ranging from the restoration of Poplar and Elliot Island in the Chesapeake Bay to projects as small as backyard rains gardens. The group also offers wetlands training workshops nationwide.
Since its founding in 1972, Environmental Concern says it has restored more than 35 miles of shoreline in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
