Md. Governor-Elect Larry Hogan Talks About His Victory
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- The voters have spoken and Maryland has elected Republican Larry Hogan as the next governor.
Pat Warren is following Larry Hogan's victory and his plans to begin governing.
The plan is to get to work right now on the transition of office.
"It was sort of surreal, I gotta tell you. I mean, we were hopeful and optimistic and confident last night; it was still kind of a shock when state troopers showed up at our hotel room and said, `We're here to protect you, Governor,'" Hogan said.
Now that the campaign is over, the governing begins.
"I gotta tell you, it wasn't easy running that campaign and winning here in Maryland," Hogan said. "But that was nothing compared to the challenges that lie ahead."
Governor-elect Larry Hogan told reports Wednesday that his administration will be non-partisan, in keeping with the message he believes voters sent to lawmakers: that people trump politics in the view of the voters and the people of Maryland want change.
"The pollsters and the pundits and the talking heads in the media all seem to talk to each other and it's sort of an echo chamber. I was talking to Marylanders. We spent a year traveling over and over again to Baltimore City and all 23 counties and Boyd and I got a chance to look voters in the eye, listen to their concerns and we met tens of thousands of people so we were feeling it and hearing it every single day," he said.
Speaking of his victory, the governor-elect says he got a call from Governor Martin O'Malley inviting him and his family for a visit to the mansion the Hogans will soon call home.
