Md. Governor-Elect Larry Hogan Gives Progress Report On His Transition
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Call it a work in progress. The Republican victory in the governor's race means a whole new administration in Annapolis.
As Pat Warren reports, there's a lot to do and a short time to do it in.
The governor-elect gives a progress report on his transition to office.
"We want to make the government more efficient, more cost-effective. We think the government spends too much, borrows too much and taxes too much," Larry Hogan said.
Fresh off the first of many "thank you" stops planned across the state, Larry Hogan dives into the deep end of the job he worked so hard to get.
"Not only do we have enormous things of building a transition, putting the right people in place, figuring out these budget issues, putting together a legislative package, taking over a $40 billion operation, but I've got personal stuff to deal with," he said. "Am I moving, do we have to pack, am I selling my house and what am I doing with my business? There's a lot of things. It's like drinking out of a fire hose right now, I've got to tell you. We're just trying to prioritize and make the important decisions first."
Hogan has three things going on now: a review of every state agency, a review of personnel and recruitment for administration positions and a review of the state budget.
"We want to try to roll back as many taxes as we can, we're going to cut wasteful spending. And our focus is going to be on economic development," said Hogan.
Hogan says anything not related to those things is not something he's going to focus on.
Hogan will attend his first National Governor's Association conference this weekend in Denver.
