Md. GOP Seeks Recognition Of Reagan's 100th
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Republican lawmakers are seeking recognition across the state for the late President Ronald Reagan as the 100th anniversary of his birth nears.
Lawmakers in both chambers of the General Assembly have filed proposals seeking the designation of a "Ronald Reagan Day" each year on Feb. 6.
Reagan, who died in 2004, was born on Feb. 6, 1911.
Republican Sen. Chris Shank of Washington County filed his bill last week. He says he thinks it will win broad support.
But Democratic House Speaker Michael Busch says Marylanders already mark the federally recognized holidays for presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. He says Reagan's supporters can honor him on the same day fellow Republican Lincoln is celebrated.
