Md. Former Teacher Plans Run for U.S. Senate
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A former Baltimore County political science teacher plans to run for U.S. Senate.
Ralph Jaffe says he will file as a 2012 Democratic candidate on Wednesday in Annapolis. Jaffe, who ran for governor last year, says he is not challenging Sen. Ben Cardin, but the political system itself.
If elected, Jaffe says he will serve only one term and without pay. He says he will stay away from paid lobbyists.
Several others have already filed for the Senate primary including Democrats Raymond Levi Blagmon of Prince George's County, J. P. Cusick of Saint Mary's County and Lih Young of Montgomery County. Republicans William Thomas Capps Jr. and Ric Hoover of Anne Arundel County have also filed to run.
Cardin's term expires next year.
