Md. Economy Improving, But Still Sluggish
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- State officials say that although the economy shows some signs of rebounding, it's still sluggish.
At a meeting Wednesday of the Board of Revenue Estimates, state Comptroller Peter Franchot said he is still concerned about the lingering effects of the recession.
There has been a 20 percent decline in home sales prices, but increased revenues from income and corporate taxes.
Maryland's unemployment rate remains at 4.7 percent.
Gov. Martin O'Malley said that the budget he's preparing next year will be so painful that the General Assembly probably will step in with its own ideas.
