Md. DNR Scales Back Proposed Hunting Fee Increase
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is scaling back a proposed hunting fee increase that would have more than doubled the cost for avid hunters.
The Cumberland Times-News reported Wednesday that a new proposal in the General Assembly would boost fees for some of the most popular permits by about 60 percent.
Many hunters had objected to the sharper increase.
The Department of Natural Resources says the higher fees would support wildlife research.
Under the new proposal, the total cost of permits to hunt deer, small game, turkey and migratory birds in all seasons would rise from $45.50 to $72. The scuttled plan would have created a consolidated hunting license priced at $95.
A basic hunting license for deer, turkey and small game would cost $40, up from $24.50.
