Md., Del. Urge Safe Disposal Of Old Medications
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland and Delaware officials are urging residents to safely dispose of expired or unused prescription drugs.
Maryland Natural Resources Police say flushing outdated medication can harm water quality and underwater life and keeping them at home can lead to accidents or abuse.
The department says four sites statewide will be collecting expired or unused medications on Saturday, April 28, which is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The sites are at Natural Resources Police offices in Annapolis, Owings Mills, Queen Anne and Myersville.
In Delaware, state officials say 31 collection sites will be open statewide.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration says the April 28 event is the fourth in the past two years, and the program has disposed of nearly 500 tons of medication.
