Md. County's Planning Board Rejects Rezoning Bid
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick County's planning board is going head-to-head with the county commissioners over growth.
The Frederick News-Post reports that the board voted Thursday against revising a comprehensive land-use plan the county adopted last year.
County commissioners President Blaine Young says he and his fellow elected leaders won't be deterred. They want to rework the document with an eye toward more development.
The county commissioners also face a lawsuit filed this week by two statewide environmental groups challenging their decision to reopen the planning process.
The comprehensive plan was approved by a county board controlled by Democrats. The current, all-Republican board wants to review the zoning on nearly 200 parcels with development potential for 17,000 more homes.
