Md. Counties Get Economic Boost From Gettysburg
WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) -- Some Maryland businesses are reporting brisk business from tourists attending Civil War anniversary events in nearby Gettysburg, Pa.
The owner of the Best Western in Westminster says her hotel was sold out early this week, partly due to spillover from Gettysburg hotels.
Frederick hotels were fully booked for months before the Gettysburg anniversary.
Downtown Frederick businesses and Carroll County restaurants also report increased business from Civil War tourists.
And the owner of Gunner's Grille in Taneytown, about 13 miles south of Gettysburg, says she's selling more food and drinks to local residents coming in to escape the crowds in Gettysburg.
The 150th anniversary events in Gettysburg continue through Sunday.
