Md. Correctional Reorganization Announced
BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says it's reorganizing to improve communication among its pretrial, prison and parole-and-probation units.
The Cumberland Times-News reported on the new structure Tuesday. It establishes north, south and central regions headed by directors who will oversee all agency functions in their jurisdictions.
The regional directors will report to a newly created deputy secretary of operations.
The department says the historical divisions have become antiquated, rigid and inflexible with a "legacy of poor communications."
It says the new structure will reduce overlapping functions and improve the delivery of services as offenders move through the system.
The agency says no jobs will be eliminated by the reorganization.
