Md. Bride's 'Certificate of Purity' To Her Father Goes Viral

WALDORF, Md. (WJZ) -- A Maryland couple's wedding has gone viral but it's not for a breakout dance performance at the reception.

Instead it's because the bride gave her father a purity certificate on her wedding day to prove she was still a virgin.

In a photo on Instagram where she's dancing with her father, Brelyn Bowman writes:

"I was able to present a certificate of purity to him signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact. Also the covenant he gave me when I was 13."

Brelyn and her husband Timothy have now received some national attention since their Oct. 10 wedding.

They have received some negative attention.

"If one person has made a decision to wait until marriage or decide to stop & wait we have done our job," Brelyn Bowman wrote on Instagram.

The groom, a second generation gospel musician, also says he was a virgin until their wedding day.
