Md. Braces For Another Heat Wave
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Despite Tuesday's brief storm, the heat is making it nearly unbearable outside---and it's only going to get worse.
Kai Jackson has more on the excessive heat sweeping the country.
The heat around the country and here in Maryland isn't just annoying, it's dangerous. Doctors are warning those going outside to take precautions.
From coast to coast, America is baking in a dangerous wave of heat. In Iowa, roads buckled under the extreme weather. More than a dozen states reported temperatures around 100 degrees.
"Yeah, it's rough," said one worker.
Baltimoreans are feeling the burn as a blistering sun scorches everything and everyone in sight. For some, relief meant cooling off in the city fountain next to the Visitor Center. Others were happy to find shade and keep still.
"I'm gonna be inside all day," said one.
Doctors say people working outside and those exercising can be especially vulnerable to heat-related illness.
"Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate," said Dr. Kit Lorentz, St. Joseph Medical Center.
Doctors are warning people to be aware of heat-related illness in yourself and others. Symptoms include fatigue, nausea, cramps, heavy sweating and headache.
People are also asked to check on elderly neighbors.
