Md. Authorities Investigating Hunting Accident
WINGATE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Natural Resources Police is investigating a hunting accident in which a man shot and critically injured his hunting companion.
Authorities say the accident happened Friday when 56-year-old Baltimore resident Gerald Edward Merkle mistook his hunting partner, Darryl James Tatrylak, for a deer. Tatrylak was wearing camouflage clothing at the time of the shooting and was not wearing a fluorescent safety vest.
He was flown to a hospital for treatment, and an investigation is ongoing.
