Md. Attorney General's Office Member Shot Outside Home In Robbery Attempt
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A high-ranking attorney with the Maryland Attorney General's Office is recovering after being shot during an attempted robbery.
Rochelle Ritchie reports the attorney is out of the hospital and recovering at home as city police continue to search for the suspects.
Baltimore City Police are on the lookout for the men who shot William Brockman, the deputy solicitor general with the Maryland Attorney General's Office, while he was walking to his home on Stricker Street.
"The suspects displayed a handgun. They attempted to rob him. The victim was shot," said Det. Angela Carter-Watson, Baltimore City Police.
Police say Brockman was shot in the groin just steps away from his home.
Neighbors mistook the shots for something else.
"I heard two shots. I thought they were firecrackers. I thought it might have been three, but it was two. I thought 'Well, if that was a gun it must of been a .22,'" said Frank Bandy, neighbor.
Baltimore City Police say after being shot, Brockman actually chased after the suspects who got away.
News of the shooting is the talk of the neighborhood.
"Brockmans are great people. They're probably the nicest people in the neighborhood," said Fran Raho, neighbor.
Neighbors of the Brockmans say their Union Square neighborhood has gone through some changes and is becoming more attractive to criminals.
"We don't have more than anybody else. We all want the same things: a safe, quiet neighborhood," Brandy said.
The description of the suspects is vague. Police say they are two black males, one standing 6'0" with a baseball cap and braided hair. The second suspect is 5'10" and was wearing black glasses at the time of the robbery.
Brockman joined the Attorney General's Office in 2002. Police do not believe he was targeted.
The suspects are said to be in their mid 20s. The Maryland Attorney General's Office has not commented on the shooting.
