Md. Agencies Release Precinct Population Counts
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland agencies have released a report on precinct population counts for redistricting and reapportionment.
The report contains population counts based on the 2010 Census for the state's 1,849 voting districts in 23 counties and Baltimore city. It was released Tuesday by the Department of Planning, the Department of Legislative Services and the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
A 2010 law requires census data to be adjusted so that residents in correctional institutions are reassigned to their last known address. It also excludes out-of-state residents in correctional institutions from the redistricting count.
A special session for congressional redistricting is scheduled for the fall. A state legislative redistricting plan will be introduced in the next legislative session.
