Matt Wieters Talks Orioles Spring Training And The Orioles Pitching Staff

Baltimore Orioles All-Star catcher Matt Wieters joins Bob & Steve. Wieters is coming off a season where he hit a career-high 23 home runs and drove in a career best 83 runs. At the end of the year he was awarded the second gold glove of his career.

Wieters joined Bob & Steve to talk about the team's mentality heading into spring training and if it was different from past years. Matt said they're carrying over the mentality from last year and hoping to go a step further and build off the positives.

Bob & Steve asked Wieters if the team is confident in their defensive abilities. Wieters said the team has an incredible amount of confidence in their defense. Returning Manny Machado at third and JJ Hardy at short stop, and the possibility of Brian Roberts returning to 2nd and 3 gold glovers in the outifeld.

Wieters was asked about 1st round pick Kevin Gausman and if he has had a chance to catch the youngster yet. Wieters said he is very impressed with Gausman's ability to control his emotions and keep the ball down in the zone.

And Bob & Steve also asked Wieters about the O's newest pitcher Jair Jurrjens. Wieters said he's known Jurjjens for a while now and how he is a great pitcher and no matter if he has his A game or not he will get outs.
