Maryland's Bartlett Skipping Convention To Campaign
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Rep. Roscoe Bartlett is skipping the Republican national convention in Tampa, Fla., next month to spend time campaigning.
The Baltimore Sun reported Sunday that Bartlett's campaign manager says the 10-term incumbent is focused on earning votes in Maryland's 6th Congressional District.
Bartlett faces a difficult path to re-election in November due to a reconfiguration of the state's congressional map.
Bartlett's Democratic opponent, Potomac businessman John Delaney, will attend the Democratic convention in Charlotte, N.C. His campaign manager says Delaney will give the keynote address at a lunch organized by Maryland party leaders.
It's not unusual for Bartlett to pass up conventions. The Sun reports that he hasn't attended one since 1996.
