Maryland Weather: Tornado Watch Canceled In Northern Maryland
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The summer-like heat is here and it is here to stay for the weekend.
The worst of it arrives Saturday and WJZ has declared an Alert Day as heat index values will approach the triple digits.
A high of 90 degrees is expected for Friday and that will be the first time we've seen highs in the 90s since last August!
The humidity will make it feel closer to the mid 90s.
A Tornado Watch was in effect in multiple Maryland counties, along with Baltimore City, for much of the afternoon, but the watch was canceled about four hours before it was set to expire.
The watch was issued for seven counties and the city.
A Tornado Warning was briefly in effect for both Allegany and Washington counties about noon and was canceled just after 1 p.m.
We could see a stray afternoon thunderstorm when we hit the heat of the day and any storm that does pop up could produce strong winds.
Overnight temperatures will be very mild, only bottoming out in the low 70s.
Saturday will be a hot and sticky day.
Highs will reach into the mid 90s and the high humidity levels will make it feel more like 100°.
Please take precautions against heat related illness by staying hydrated with water and taking breaks in the AC and shade.
Keep these in mind if you're headed to Pimlico for the Preakness Stakes.
Temperatures at post time will still be in the low 90s!
A cold front arrives Sunday afternoon and will likely trigger some showers and thunderstorms, including the possibility for damaging winds.
That cold front will really get the job done, with highs in the low 70s by Monday.
