Maryland State Police Investigate Westminster Man's Murder
WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland State Police nab a man they believe is responsible for Carroll County's latest murder.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on how police caught him so quickly.
According to police, Edward Zepp, 61, was not only murdered, but robbed of his truck, which was key in tracking down the suspect.
It took just one 911 call to track down the man Maryland State Police believe is responsible for his murder.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday, Westminster Police were called to the 100-block of West Main Street after Zepp was found lying on his porch.
"Witnesses reported hearing an assault or altercation just minutes before at that location," said Maryland State Police spokesperson Greg Shipley.
The victim died. Police arrested his former roommate, 28 year-old David Montgomery.
Many neighbors chose to remain tight-lipped, except one who said Montgomery seemed peculiar.
"The accused, I've seen him over there before. Things just didn't seem right," said one man.
Neighbors said the victim was a quiet man who never started any trouble.
"He sat out back with his dog a lot and read. He really didn't bother anybody," the man added.
Police said Montgomery stole the victim's truck. His erratic driving behavior caught the attention of other drivers in Anne Arundel County who called police.
Officers found Montgomery around noon Saturday in a convenience store parking lot.
"They responded to the area and found this suspect in a van. The van belonged to the victim in this homicide," said Shipley.
Police have not determined the cause of the death or a motive. They are continuing to investigate.
Charges are still pending against Montgomery.
