Maryland Seeing Peak Fall Foliage
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Fall brings out the colors across Maryland and right now is the peak season for beautiful fall foliage.
Marcus Washington has a look at the change of seasons.
It's a beautiful sight.
They're the colors that define a season.
"It's just beautiful," said one. "God made all this for our enjoyment."
Fall is the time when trees start telling a story.
"They're cool," said one young boy.
The beauty is attracting a lot of attention.
"The colors are really gorgeous," said one.
With so many colors creating such a pretty sight, have you wondered how?
"What happens is the base of the leaves, a powder starts to form and it stops the flow of the chlorophyll in the leaves," said Jack Perdue, Maryland Forest Service.
"It's not really a weather thing," said Rob Banfante.
"Reds and yellows, for example they're already in the leaf. The green is so dominant that it doesn't let the red come through," Perdue said.
"You don't have to know all that to appreciate this," Banfante said.
People are enjoying the leaves turning colors.
More than two-thirds of the leaves in the Baltimore region have changed from green to those bright yellows, oranges and reds.
