Maryland Rallies, Eliminates Lehigh, 10-9, In NCAA
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) -- Drew Snider and Joe Cummings combined for five goals, Charlie Raffa won 10 faceoffs, and Niko Amato had six saves as Maryland outlasted Lehigh, 10-9, on Sunday night in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
The Mountain Hawks (14-3) were led by Kyle Stiefel's three goals and Matt Poillon's 16 saves, but Lehigh blew an 8-6 lead in the fourth quarter, after outscoring the Terrapins, 4-0, in the third.
Maryland (10-5) moves on to face Johns Hopkins on Saturday at Navy-Marine Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., in the quarterfinals. Owen Blye had four assists, and Mike Chanenchuk added two more for Maryland. Johns Hopkins handled Stony Brook, 19-9, in the opening round on Sunday.
Ryan Snyder won nine faceoffs for the Mountain Hawks, and David DiMaria, Dante Fantoni and Roman Lao-Gosney each had one assist in the losing effort.
