Maryland Prepares For Icy Conditions During Friday Morning Commute
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Maryland. A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected Friday between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Bob Turk is tracking the system approaching the East Coast.
Turk says the system could create a slick morning commute, but the bulk of the winter weather system will hit the New England region, bringing heavy snow there.
The Baltimore area is expected to get light flurries and rain Friday.
Still, that isn't stopping the state of Maryland from taking precautions, as any untreated surface will become icy, especially on elevated surfaces.
State highway crews will activate 2 a.m. Friday. Baltimore County crews will activate at midnight.
Area highway departments are monitoring forecasts and preparing.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. The National Weather Service advises motorists to be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility and to use caution while driving.
