Maryland Officials Expand Baltimore Mosquito Control Efforts
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland agriculture officials say they are working with the Baltimore health department to expand mosquito control services in the city amid concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases, including West Nile and Zika viruses.
Officials say mosquito control trucks will be spraying on Sunday, weather permitting, between Pimlico Road and Lanier Avenue, as well as Cylburn Avenue and Virginia Avenue.
Spraying will begin at or after 7:30 p.m., and officials say people should avoid outdoor activities on spray nights.
Inspectors will be going door-to-door a day or two after the spraying to inspect properties for mosquito breeding sites and to conduct backyard spraying, as needed, to further reduce adult mosquito populations.
Meanwhile, residents are urged to get rid of any standing water around their homes and yards.
