Maryland Officer Hit By Car During Traffic Stop Dies

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Police in Maryland say an officer hit by a car during a traffic stop last week has died.

Montgomery County Police said in a statement that 24-year-old Officer Noah Leotta died Thursday at a hospital.

Police say Leotta, who was working on the department's Holiday Alcohol Task Force, was conducting a traffic stop Dec. 3 when the driver of another car -- a 2012 Honda CRV -- struck his police cruiser and then him.

Police say the Honda's driver remained on the scene and was taken into custody because he was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Police say results of a blood test are pending.

Leotta interned with the department starting in 2011 and graduated from the academy in 2013.
