McDonald's Employee Killed In 'Targeted' Shooting In Gambrills
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 23-year-old McDonald's employee was shot and killed Friday morning inside a Gambrills location of the fast food restaurant in what Anne Arundel County police believe is a targeted incident.
Anne Arundel County Police Cpl. Chris Anderson identified the victim as Britrain Marcelus Gray, of Odenton.
Officers were called to the fast food restaurant near Crain Highway and Carver Road about 4:45 a.m. for a report of a shooting, police said.
Three other employees inside the restaurant at the time heard a commotion, shots being fired and broken glass, Anderson said. Multiple shots were fired.
It is unclear where on the premises the shooting took place. The restaurant's drive-thru window was visibly damaged Friday morning.
Anderson said the suspect was outside the restaurant and fired into the building before fleeing on foot. Identifying information such as the suspect's race or sex was not yet available.
Based on a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the deadly shooting was targeted and not a random act of violence.
In a statement, the McDonald's spokesperson lamented the loss of Gray.
"We are saddened by the senseless and tragic loss of our friend and colleague," the statement said. "Our thoughts are with the employee's family and loved ones at this difficult time."
The company said it is offering counseling and support to the victim's co-workers and is cooperating with the investigation.
Additional details, such as a motive behind the shooting, were not immediately released.
Investigators are collecting camera footage from other businesses in the area of the McDonald's, Anderson said. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Anne Arundel County Police Department's tip line at 410-222-4770.
