Maryland Lawmakers Learning More About Neighbors
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland's Senate president says the state just wasn't learning anything from Southern states.
Visitors from the Eastern Regional Conference of the Council of State Governments came to Annapolis on Wednesday.
Maryland is in its first year in the East Region of the group after petitioning to leave the Southern Region last year.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, a Democrat, says Maryland is "10 years ahead of the South" and that Maryland lawmakers "weren't learning anything" from lawmakers in the region. Miller says Eastern states have more in common economically and socially.
Miller urged lawmakers to get acquainted with visiting representatives in the group, which provides a forum for state officials to share ideas.
