Maryland Inmate Gets 5 Years For Brief Escape
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland state prison inmate is spending an additional five years behind bars for an escape that got him less than a day of freedom last summer.
Dominic Webster, 51, was sentenced Tuesday in Hagerstown after pleading guilty to escaping from the nearby Maryland Correctional Institution on July 30.
Webster refused to explain in court how he broke out. A prosecutor says he is believed to have hidden on a delivery vehicle.
Two correctional officers were fired and another was reprimanded for allowing the escape.
The extra time will be added to the 25 years that the Baltimore man is serving for robbery with a deadly weapon and handgun violations.
