Maryland Honors Men And Women In Armed Forces For Veterans Day
ANNAPOLIS (WJZ) -- Maryland honors its Armed Service men and women on Veterans' Day. Remembrances and ceremonies took place all across the state.
In just one of the many ways Maryland said thank you today, Governor Hogan attended a dedication of a brand new monument in honor of Gold Star Families.
Despite a tumultuous election season -- unity in central Maryland on Veteran's Day.
"We come back together regardless of how things transpired before," said Marine Corps veteran Michael Blackwell
Friday morning, the annual parade honoring our country's veterans wound through the Charm City, with city officials and military members in tow.
And in Annapolis, a big day for the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice -- as the only Gold Star family memorial in Maryland is dedicated.
"We finally have a memorial that is going to be a visual reminder to all who come to visit that there is a family member attached to every fallen hero," said Janice Chance.
Governor Larry Hogan, the father of a National Guard veteran, was emotional as he addressed the families.
"But I cannot even begin to fathom the unimaginable loss and heartbreak," said Governor Hogan.
For Marylanders, it was a day to reflect and say 'thank you' to some of our country's greatest heroes.
This memorial took less than 3 months to build, with the hope that it will be a life-long reminder, like the World War II and Pearl Harbor memorials nearby.
The Gold Star Family monument is a gift from the Hershel "Woody" Williams Medal of Honor foundation.
