Maryland Gov. Wes Moore not interested in possible VP role: "I love my job"
BALTIMORE — Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said he has "no intention" of leaving his current role amid speculation about the Democratic presidential ticket.
Moore's name has been cited as a potential vice presidential running mate to Kamala Harris. The current vice president said she intends to "earn and win" the Democratic presidential nomination after President Joe Biden announced he is withdrawing from the race.
"I have expressed that I love my job and I have no intention of leaving," Moore said. "I think that where (Kamala Harris) goes is going to be a very personal decision for her. I think she's going to have wonderful options to consider."
Moore, who was voted in as Maryland's 63rd governor in 2022, said he plans to stay in Annapolis.
"I want to stay as the Governor of Maryland," Moore said. "I love the momentum we are seeing right now in the state of Maryland. I want to be the leader that helps to continue pushing forward that momentum. My decision to stay in Maryland is because I still have work to do."
Moore announced his endorsement of Harris Monday morning and said he spoke with the vice president at length on Sunday.
"The American people deserve a champion who will continue the progress of the Biden-Harris Administration, and that's why I am proud to voice my full support and offer my full endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee for President," Moore said.
Several names have been floated as possible vice presidential running mates for Harris if she is the Democratic nominee. Moore said he has full confidence in her decision.
"I have full faith and confidence that the vice president is going to make the right selection for her," Moore said.
Moore said he will be campaigning for Harris and will be a co-chair on the Harris campaign.
Harris spoke at an event on the White House South Lawn on Monday and shared her gratitude to Mr. Biden.
"Every day, our President Joe Biden fights for the American people and we are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation," Harris said.
Mr. Biden, delegates with the Maryland Democratic National Convention and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi have also endorsed Harris.
The Democratic National Convention starts on August 19, while Election Day is on November 5.
