Federal Agent Arrested For Maryland Road Rage Incident
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A federal agent is facing several charges after allegedly pulling out a gun during a road rage incident last month.
William Dent is a federal agent with the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, but this time, it's the 57-year-old who's being investigated.
On March 26, a driver told police that Dent was tailgating him on Harmans Road near Dorsey Road in Severn.
The unidentified man told authorities he pulled over to allow Dent to pass, but the federal agent allegedly pulled over too and started walking toward the vehicle, so the man said he drove off.
The victim told police that Dent later followed him to another location near Severn Hills Lane, pulled out a gun and announced that he was a federal agent.
Detectives say a verbal exchange occurred before the alleged victim left the area.
Police don't believe the men knew each other.
The alleged victim eventually called 911.
"The victim was very upset. He was very unsettled with the way he alleged this individual was acting," Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson Lt. Ryan Frashure said. "It was very upsetting to him, so sure he was scared."
Police say Dent turned himself in later that day.
Dent has been charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, stalking and firearm use in the commission of a violent crime.
No one was hurt, but Frashure says law enforcement is held to a higher standard.
"It's certainly very disturbing. If this alleged assault did occur, this is one of these situations where road rage can happen to anyone," he said.
Police say Dent turned himself in with a military supervisor present and without incident.
WJZ has contacted the Air Force for comment, but they have not yet responded.
