Maryland-Eastern Shore Holds Off Navy 59-46
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) -- Ishaq Pitt scored 19 points and Maryland-Eastern Shore knocked off Navy 59-46 on Wednesday night for the Hawks' second win of the season.
Louis Bell added 15 points and Tyler Hines 11 for Maryland-Eastern Shore (2-7), which outshot the Midshipmen from the field 45.1 percent (23 of 51) to 32.7 percent (16 of 49).
Navy's 46 points were its fewest since scoring 40 against Holy Cross on Feb. 15, 2007.
The Hawks led 29-24 at halftime, but the Midshipmen (3-5) opened the second half on an 8-2 run, capped by four straight points by Jordan Sugars, to lead 32-31 with 17:09 left.
Maryland-Eastern Shore responded with a 7-0 run, sparked by Pitt's three-point play, to pull away.
The Midshipmen threatened once more, getting to within 46-43 with 6:11 left, but the Hawks closed out the game on a 13-3 run.
J.J. Avila led Navy with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
