Maryland Boaters Asked To Prepare For Irene
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Natural Resources Police say boaters should prepare now for stormy weather related to Hurricane Irene.
Police say boaters should consider removing valuable equipment from their boats and consider taking their vessels from the water to reduce damage from storm surge. Boats on land should be properly stored or tied down to prevent being damaged by winds and those that remain in the water should be moored in safe areas or berths.
Boaters are also asked to make sure bilge pumps are working and the batteries that run them are fully charged. All openings should also be sealed to make boats watertight. Irene could arrive in the Chesapeake Bay area by Sunday.
